Music critic Mike Barron once described Harris Lemberg as "a scion of a long line of New Jersey key-ticklers, Harris is a guy who 'just loves silly pop song.' By pop songs, he means the body of popular song extending back at least a century...he's an eclectic romantic... wearing a sport jacket and tie, Lemberg began with Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust, perfectly contoured and covered with glitter, like a Faberge egg..."

Once after a performance a fan asked Harris how he learned to play so funky. In 1972, while studying Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin, Harris met famous funk drummer Clyde Stubblefield and became his keyboard player for Stubblefield's house band at the Jazz Workshop on East Main Street. That's how he learned to play so funky.

Last year Harris performed the role of Frank in StageQ's Production of Pulp at the Bartell Theatre. The role required him to be the piano accompanist while also playing the part of Frank on stage. Harris is highly regarded as an accompanist. For example, he has backed up two of Madison's favorites - Geri DiMaggio and Jan Wheaton. Harris is low key when it comes to his accompanist role "...when you play with great singers like Geri or Jan it's easy to sound great. All you need to do is strum the chords and listen to them sing."

Harris' CD Lost In My Own Little World won the 2008 Madison Area Music Awards Jazz Album of the Year award. Harris has been selling the CD all over the world. One of the songs on the CD is being used for a TV Show. Harris composed all the music for the CD. There is an elegant simplicity to Harris' composition, which he calls his musical short stories. Harris will soon release a two CD set of live recordings of jazz standards with his long time bass player Johnny Widdicombe.

Fortunately it is easy to hear Harris perform. He plays most Saturdays at Lilianna's in Fitchburg, most Tuesdays at The Samba Grill, and frequently at The Olive Lounge in the Hilton Hotel. His performance schedule can be found on harrissimo.com

Johnny Widdicombe, Harris' long time bass player and singer supreme. Johnny is more than a bass player to me. He is one of my best friends. Johnny is a Prince Among Men. He is nicknamed "3-piece" for his propensity to wear 3 piece suits. He is a handsome man.
